The role of internships in a master programme

In this period of the start of the new academic year, two conferences were organized for the 1stclass of UTSEUS master students of SHU.

As the students start the postgraduate studies, designed to lead them to a double master degree and to the title of engineer, two engineers and executives from international companies came to meet them in order to share their experience of engineering education.

First, on September 18th, Mr. ZHOU Xingyu (Faurecia), a former UTSEUS student (1st enrollment in 2005) and UTBM graduate, working for Faurecia in Shanghai, gave a lecture on the theme:

« How to train a future engineer. The importance of internships within companies. »

Then, on 24/09, Mr. François Jenny (SUEZ Asia in Shanghai), UTC graduate, associate professor at UTSEUS, presented on the theme:

« University-Company cooperation in training graduate engineering students. Expectation of a Sino-French technological company in China. »

These presentations allowed to describe the expectations of the companies in terms of competences of their future engineers and to explain, in particular, the role of internships, key element of the engineering programme. Prior to their presentations, the French dean of UTSEUS introduced the subject by recalling the principles of engineering education in France and the recommendations of the Accreditation Board for Engineering (“Commission des titres d'ingénieurs”, CTI) with respect to that matter.

The company representatives, whom we thank again for coming, raised many questions from the UTSEUS students, and we hope that, along with our industrial partners, UTSEUS will be able to pursue soon with similar testimonies.
