On July 7, 2021, the "French engineer education experience summer camp" sponsored by the enrollment and employment Office of Shanghai University (UTSEUS) and undertaken by Sino-European School of Technology of Shanghai University was successfully opened. 26 outstanding high school students from 19 middle schools in four provinces of China entered UTSEUS and began the three-day summer camp.
At the opening ceremony, the French director of UTSEUS, and the deputy secretary of the general Party branch of UTSEUS, expressed warm congratulations and welcome to the students. They briefly introduced Shanghai University to the students in vivid language, emphasized the concept of French engineer education, and described the close combination of French engineer education and enterprise needs, aiming at cultivating students' ability to solve practical problems.
During the summer camp, UTSEUS prepared four academic lectures, one for quality development, one for on campus visit (Academic visit + university history museum visit), one for off campus enterprise visit, one for career exploration, one for alumni sharing, one for French tea break, and held camp closing exhibition and camper Award activities.
On the morning of July 7, Professor Fabien Pfaender gave a lecture on French science and technology culture. Starting from the comparison between Shanghai and Paris, he talked about the French life and the scenery of different cities. When he talked about the education sector, he pointed out that the reason why many famous scientists are engaged in many fields is because of the educational philosophy of comprehensive disciplines in universities, and guide everyone to express their understanding of engineers and communicate with students.
In the afternoon, teacher Mr Xin from the school psychological counseling center led the students to start quality development and ice breaking activities, and divided them into groups. We have a deeper understanding of each other, and through the game, each group of students remember each other's names and preferences.
Then the students divided into two groups to visit the university history museum and the Qian Weichang library.
Under the leadership of Mr. Chen Chaoyue, the students learned about the specific equipment and process of metal additive manufacturing, and had a preliminary understanding of the principle, process characteristics, process and application of 3D printing technology.
After the visit, Xie Haihua, UTSEUS teacher exposed the Internet of things (IoT) big data laboratory, and gave a lecture on "the application of Internet of things and big data in life and industry". After introducing the knowledge and examples of Internet of things and big data, the teacher led the students to discuss big data, robot and programming learning, Teacher Xie finally put forward the view that "innovation comes from life and study work, knowledge comes from our various learning, ability comes from our projects and practice", and encouraged students to actively explore and create their own world.
On the morning of July 8, Professor Lei Zuosheng held an academic lecture on the theme of "Honeycomb and Water Cube". Professor Lei started with the digital game, and then the rule of foam movement is derived from the morphological rules hidden in dragonfly wings and their compound eye structures. Four dimensional experiments on the hypercube with soap water and cube are carried out at the scene, and the concept of minimum fill surface is proposed. Professor Lei showed students the structural principles of honeycomb and water cube in an all-round way, inspired them to observe things and guide them to think deeply.
In the afternoon, students visited Yanfeng Plastic Omnium (YFPO, Shanghai) automotive exterior System Co., Ltd. And, in parallel, Shanghai Microsoft artificial intelligence and Internet of things laboratory in two groups, together with other professional teachers of the Institute. The engineers explained in detail the areas and services the company focused on, and led the students to visit the factory assembly line and Microsoft product exhibition hall, and had experience and exchange. Students and engineers actively interact with each other to ask questions and have a deeper understanding of the current cutting-edge technology and the company's products and equipment.
On the morning of July 9, French director introduced to the students the unique engineer education in France. The students had a new understanding of the French engineer education system, which is oriented by the needs of enterprises, encourages hands-on and innovation, and cultivates the ability to solve practical problems.
In the afternoon, Mr. Li Qin, director of employment and host of career studio of School of management of Shanghai University, led the students to explore career development. Based on the results of students' self-awareness assessment, starting from the description of career vision, he shared with the students his career interests, personality, ability and values.
Under the leadership of teacher “Isabelle” Shen Yili, the students met and tasted a variety of classic French food, such as cheese, French “baguette”, ham and experienced French culture. Then, senior Julien Clément shared his study experience in UTSEUS and Utbm, as well as his mental journey in recent years, so that students could have a clearer understanding of the future and life of engineers.
The French director of UTSEUS, Zhou Yi, deputy secretary, Su Hong and Guan Dongdong, as the judges of this defense activity, reviewed the experience of 26 campers, listened to their presentation reports, and presented the campers with their closing certificates.
The French engineer education experience summer camp has come to a successful end. Despite bad weather, but the students have persisted through wind and rain. I believe the students will remember the three days spent in Sino-European School of Technology this summer.
