On the morning of November 28, 2018, Professor Renaud Bachelot of University of Technology of Troyes, was officially appointed as the “Joint Professor” both of Shanghai University and French University of Technology. The appointment ceremony was held in Room 306 of UTSEUS. Prof. Gong Siyi, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai University, Prof. Huo Weiwei, Deputy Director of Shanghai University Talent Office, Prof. Liu Jianyong, Party Secretary of UTSEUS, Prof. Liu Wanyu and Marc Bondiou, Chinese and French Dean of UTSEUS attended the appointment ceremony.
The appointment ceremony was hosted by Prof. Xu Tao, Deputy Dean of UTSEUS. He first introduced the academic achievements of Professor Renaud Bachelot and his scientific research cooperation with Shanghai University in recent years. Dean Liu Wanyu expressed his warm welcome to Professor Renaud Bachelot on behalf of UTSEUS. French Dean Marc Bondiou also delivered a speech on behalf of French University of Technology. Deputy Director Huo Weiwei said that the Talent Office would continue to follow up the development of high-end talents and provide follow-up services and support. Prof. Gong Siyi, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai University, presented the letter of appointment to Prof. Renaud Bachelot, stating that it is of great significance to have the first Chinese-French joint professor in Shanghai University, which is a new starting point for the construction of the international team of UTSEUS. She is looking forward to the progress in teaching, research and team building with Professor Renaud Bachelot working at Shanghai University.
The launch of “Joint Professor” is an innovative initiative of Shanghai University in the personnel system. The professors of French University of Technology will work in Shanghai University for three months or one semester each year. They are jointly employed by the schools of both sides. On the one hand, they can carry out teaching and research work in UTSEUS, and also develop scientific research cooperation with relevant colleges and laboratories of Shanghai University.
Renaud Bachelot is a distinguished professor of University of Technology of Troyes in France, and Director of the Nano-Optics Key Laboratory of UTT. He is also an internationally renowned scholar in the field of Nano-optics. He has published more than 150 academic papers and served as the chairman of several international conferences. He has presided over more than 10 French national research projects, trained 20 doctoral graduates, served as vice chairman of the Academic Committee of UTT, and joined the Board of University of Champaign, French Physical Society and French National Research Institute. He has worked as a visiting professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and the Argonne National Laboratory in the United States, Therefore, Professor Renaud Bachelot is skilled in world-class academic capabilities and international research cooperation experience.
In recent years, a series of scientific research cooperation has been carried out at Shanghai University by UTSEUS, especially with the team of Professor Zhang Jianhua of the New Key Display Laboratory. The two laboratories signed a research cooperation agreement in 2017.
