On December 2rd, 2018, mid-term evaluation of 2018 research project of Shanghai Science Association for Young Talents (hereinafter referred to as “Science Association” or "SSAYT") were successfully held at UTSEUS of Shanghai University. The event was hosted by UTSEUS and Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Service Center for Young Talents, and organized by Shanghai Science Association for Young Talents. Taken the subject features of UTSEUS of Shanghai University into consideration, four subject expert groups of Engineering and three of Computer and Information Technology, with each group consisting of 2-3 experts recommended by UTSEUS, were arranged to conduct a mid-term evaluation of the 2018 research members of the Science Association.

After ten years of development and exploration, Shanghai Science Association for Young Talents has gradually developed into an important base for cultivating talents for scientific and technological innovation. The existing Science and Technology Headquarters and 28 branches recruit more than 3,000 student members each year. Their award rate in domestic and oversea youth science and technology innovation competitions is over 98%. In order to help research members to understand their research progress, rationally adjust research plans, and to further improve science and technology innovation projects, this mid-term evaluation is divided into 13 subject groups including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering. The report of Computer and Engineering were held in UTSEUS.

The Science Association has students both from primary and high school. The research topics selected by the members also cover all aspects of life. Some of the groups are composed of one student and some are three or four students. All the groups performed with great confidence. The team members showed a high adaptability and capabilities through the 5-10 minutes’ PPT display and question and answer session. The expert group raised questions to the report of the responding members and gave guiding opinions.

Taking advantage of the opportunity of this evaluation activity, UTSEUS did a good promotion to the students and parents who come to Shanghai University to participate in the activities. At the same time, student volunteers and teachers responsible for admission communicated with students and parents from Shanghai Experimental School, Shanghai Foreign Language School, No.2 High School of East China Normal University, Shanghai Shangde Experimental School, Shanghai Pinghe School to introduce them to some basic information of Shanghai University and the talent training features and enrollment information of UTSEUS. Some parents expressed great interest in the summer camp and winter camp activities mentioned in the promotion video of UTSEUS, and asked whether similar activities were open for junior and high school students.

The evaluation work progressed smoothly. The relevant responsible teachers of the Science Association highly praised the support work provided by UTSEUS. One of the teachers said: “Shanghai University attaches great importance to this event and arranges many teachers and volunteers. It was because of the support of Shanghai University that the activities were carried out exceptionally successful and the tasks were completed ahead of schedule.” In the end, Dean Liu Wanyu from UTSEUS, teachers from Shanghai Science Association for Young Talents, and student volunteers took a group photo together. The mid-term evaluation ended successfully.

Through this event, UTSEUS has expanded the influence of Shanghai University among the students of Shanghai Science Association for Young Talents, and has enabled more students to know about Shanghai University and UTSEUS. In the future, SHU and UTSEUS will work together in more fields to do a better job in quality student cultivation.
